There are significant effects on local economies and on the people who have given the best years of their working lives to those pastures. Some of the last good cowboying jobs out there are going to disappear. Truly a shameful decision for so many reasons.Trevor Herriothttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11129533251670929001noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1953681015185820780.post-82515472867259321042012-04-30T11:21:09.852-07:002012-04-30T11:21:09.852-07:00what the federal government is not taking into con...what the federal government is not taking into concideration is the impact closing of these pastures on the local economy. How many lifts of salt, wire, posts and meds are not going to be sold locally now? I know our local pasture goes through several pallets of salt in a grazing year. Not to mention the lost revenue to the purebred cattle breeders in the spring when it is time for the bull sales. The PFRA managers buy several bulls every spring to replace sick, injured or old bulls and restock throughout the province. with the stress of the soon closing pastures there has been some pasture managers hospitalized with anxiety related conditions. This is an issue that is near and dear to me since my father rode pasture for several years and I have several close freinds in the pasture system right now. I can't see how the federal government can see this as being productiveAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1953681015185820780.post-61758326224170245152012-04-30T11:07:14.282-07:002012-04-30T11:07:14.282-07:00Mark--there are no doubt exceptions, but most peop...Mark--there are no doubt exceptions, but most people in range ecology and grassland conservation circles would agree that taken as a whole the PFRA pastures have been managed better than our provincial pastures, again taken as a whole.Trevor Herriothttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11129533251670929001noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1953681015185820780.post-9481776094111977462012-04-29T11:16:55.800-07:002012-04-29T11:16:55.800-07:00I think your full of crap in saying the provincial...I think your full of crap in saying the provincial pastures are not kept in as good of condition as the federal ones.
